What It Is
Silexan is a patented, standardised oral preparation of lavender (Lavandula angustifolia) essential oil, used as an anxiolytic and sleep aid.
Mechanism & Notes
- Acts as a subunit-selective inhibitor of voltage-gated calcium channels, dampening over-excitable neurons
- Anxiolytic comparable to low-dose benzodiazepines/SSRIs in trials, without sedation, dependence or withdrawal
- Improves sleep quality secondary to anxiety reduction (not a direct hypnotic)
